Cynthia cannot compete. That's not a slight on her, she's strongest in Sinnoh for a good reason. But she just isn't able to match Ash's ability to pull out some off-the-wall tactic and make it stick, even her preview said she's reasonably predictable, even if most can't take advantage of her predictability when the chips are down.
And let's face it, inside Japan, Satoshi is the only ones the fans would accept beating Cynthia. Weebs as always count for nothing to the Pokémon animators.
