I haven't played anything in the series since USUM killed it for me
I wanna actually check out the newer stuff to see if the hate is warranted(it is i'm just a consoomer) but i don't have enough energy to play all of them

should i play PLA? or should i play SwSh? or should i play a hack like sigma platinum? or should i just accept the series will forever be garbage and play a gen 3 romhack

Give it a chance. It's rather different from the mainline games for better or worse.

You could also wait a couple months to see the reception to Scarlet/Violet.
