Honestly, the fact that the studio actually took the criticism on the first Sonic design and went back to fix it earned them a ton of goodwill from the fans because you never ever see these movies admit to fucking up. Not doubling on a mistake made people think that they actually cared.

By contrast, DP went with a "realistic" look that people hated and made most of the Pokemon look really ugly. Plot also sucked and the lead actor sucked.

I stopped watching the main anime series almost two decades ago and do not care about it at all. As a fan of the games I am naturally more inclined to check out the shorts and short series they've produced in recent years that are free of the main anime's baggage, guaranteed to wrap up quickly, and directly adapt stories from the games I still play, and consequently I am also more likely to have an opinion on them.

Yeah but those weren't issues at the time. There was no Detective Pikachu 2 because WB is a bad company. They were a bad studio before all this Discovery stuff and they'll be one after. They're rotten to the core. Detective Pikachu was a decent kids movie and it did well for a kids film based on a game no one played, using a concept no one wanted for a Pokemon movie, and for a movie released so close to Endgame and Godzilla 2. But it didn't break a billion so WB noped off and walked away from the entire franchise. It was such a WB play. They're truly run by idiots.

Paramount however is well put together. I don't agree with every choice they make but they meet production goals. They give franchises like Sonic time to find an audience, and they know how to market.
