Earthquake is removed in Scarlet/Violet. Headlong Rush returns from Legends as the new strong Ground-type move, with wider distribution.

They still use Dig, Earth Power, Bulldoze, High Horsepower, etc. It's only Earthquake, Magnitude, and Fissure that were removed.

It's so they don't have to cancel an episode every time an earthquake happens

Best to just cut the move entirely than risk an important episode going unaired because of a natural disaster

This is also why GameFreak's moved from big bombastic villains to common thugs, did nothing wrongs and literal stans.
If the villains aren't going out of their way to blow shit up, they don't have to worry about shitcanning their entire relevancy due to unfortunate disaster timing, like what happened to Team Plasma that they were reduced to a shitty filler arc after the Unova League.

The Plasma thing happened because of BW2, the episodes were originally only postponed. It was BW2 having a different version of Team Plasma that led to them being cancelled and removed from canon

Dogasu fanboy argument that makes no sense. They "postponed" the episodes for too long in the first place, and there was no reason not to adapt both versions of Plasma outside of "well it's too late now" (which is also bullshit, when BW2 has both factions appearing)

earthquake wasnt missing from legends because of real life earthquakes, it was missing because it was a big AOE attack and all of those were missing because of battles taking place on a lot of different terrain+ it would be goofy if your pokemon was constantly tripping the trainer
