Depends on the game. Like for example im GO your options are limited and the same goes for FireRed so I have to go with what’s available in game. Gen 4 I would trade certain poke balls from SoulSilver into Platinum for more aesthetically pleasing captures.

My army of 200+ favorites (all with at least 5 perfect IVs, best suited nature, best egg moves, etc) are all in either aesthetically matching or thematically matching balls. An example of thematically matching would be my Mandibuzz/Copperajah/Girafarig/etc being in Net Balls to emphasize how nets are used to capture exotic animals (such as the ones they are based on) on safari hunts. Greedent in a regular PokeBall to emphasize how simple and natural it's design is so much so that it could pass for Gen 1/2 Pokemon (not really) but still. Theivul in a Luxury Ball because it's a bandit/theif Pokemon that steals treasure/jewelry/gold/etc. A shit ton of my favorites, including a lot of Gen 1 mons are in Beast Balls because they are hands down the best looking PokeBall and can put a cool futuristic twist on any old classic. Imo the Beast Ball looks more like "Cyber Ball" to me. Aesthetically matching is easy; Primarina in Love Ball because the pink of the ball helps bring out the small pinks on Primarina, Falinks in a Beast Ball to being out the glowing blue of its eyes and gold armor. Midnight Lycanroc was a tough one to decide, either to go with regular PokeBall because of it's redness and complete contrast to older designs while still being an amazing looking Pokemon, or the Moon Ball to emphasize it's werewolf inspired origins. Went with Moon Ball.

I exclusively use regular pokeballs, except when it's something I plan to train and breed to become the best template I got off of google. Then I'll use luxury or premier. Master ball is exclusively for the box legendary or Mewtwo, the former depending on if I can't catch the bastard in a normal ball after an hour.

I did a Platinum playthrough once where I tried to balltism every legendary but getting an Azelf in a Great Ball was such a pain in the ass I stopped doing it.

In my living dex, everthing is in normal pokeball. For my playthroughs, hardcore balltism. I have avoided using Medicham in gen 3 sonce there is no heal ball. But I would use a pokemon if it doesn't have a fitting ball at all or if there is no apricorn ball for it.

I didn't, I just use the HOME GTS to get what I need. Just look up the name of the Pokemon you want and there's a pretty good chance it's up there in a Beast Ball, or whichever Ball it is you want. It can get a little tedious trying to get what people are asking for but with the current on-going Enamorus exchange, everything is pretty streamlined.

I generally use what feels like the most fitting for a trainer to use for that pokemon. So all the weak first stages are caught with Pokeballs, for example, because you wouldn't use an Ultra Ball on a Pidgey. Also I NEVER use Great Balls no matter what even if they feel like the most fitting because I fucking hate them.

Luxury balls are the most aesthetic. Great balls are one of the least, I never use them on what I actually want to use.
It doesn't really matter though. Just a sprite you barely see.

No reason why there isn't a function to swap out balls you've caught pokemon in. What game was that feature in? Clover? Wack edition? Don't remember.

I'm a balltist but a very casual one, I just like getting everything in Premier Balls and only max out on matching Pokeballs when breeding, i.e Tsareena in a Love Ball. I could probably get into it seriously but I haven't bought a Pokemon game since SM.
On a side note, what ball would you guys recommend for a normal Mawile? My initial thought is Luxury but I'm open to other suggestions.

I'm not too picky about it outside of these rules, and I also compromise if, say, I find a shiny but ran out of Premier Balls. The Pokemon itself takes priority, the ball used to catch it be damned. I think low- to mid-level balltism is what I have. I've only been like this since SuMo, where previously I didn't care at all. I blame /vp/.

I try to work on it as I go for living dexes. Non-shiny dex: color matching the non-shiny whenever possible. Shiny dex: color matching the shiny whenever possible. There are exceptions too, for example I'm fine with having non-shiny UBs in Beast Balls or catching new shit in Quick Balls as placeholders just to fill up the new Dex data

Whenever possible I match my mons and balls by color, with preference given to rarer balls (Apriballs, Beast Balls, Sport/Safari Balls) if I have a choice. I also like to construct my teams in such a way that I can have six different balls across my six mons. It's a strong enough compulsion that I will always do it if given the chance, but not so much that I melt down if I can't.

I do ghost monotype teams and only use duskballs. It prevents me from ever using shedinja on my team they can only be in a pokeball. In swsh it also meant no alolan marowak, despite it being one of my fav variants.

If I have access to Luxury Balls, that's the only ball I'll ever use, if not it's only Pokéballs.
Great and Ultra Balls simply do not look good. And the simplicity of Luxury and Pokeballs is really nice.

Most of the pokemon I've captured in SS (SoulSilver) were in apricorn balls cuz it's an exclusivity of these games thus it would be a waste to not use 'em + apricorn balls are among the most easthetically pleasing balls in the games. My proudest catches are Groudon in a heavy ball and latios in a fast ball.

It triggers me so much so that I've wrapped around to coping with standard Pokeballs if there's no other way to acquire it, i.e. breeding in generations before 6, since I've been on a massive journey to collect ribbons on every single one of my Pokemon, as far back as gen 3. I like it when the ball and the pokemon match thematically but that wont make me rage if not. matching collors are nice too but sometimes are sub optimal.

The day they made it sk balls appeared on the pokecenter healer individually instead of as generic balls, it was all over from there. Of all the unbearable autism of this board I've been able to dodge all of it, except balltism.

I have a 70% complete shiny dex, all in Luxury Balls where I can. Only had one missed capture, a shiny Cobalion. Red circle tag for Lux Ball, blue for best non-Lux where Lux is not possible (e.g. Pokeball for Gen 8 starters), and no tag where the ball can be improved.
