The reason was to show her remembering what made her fall in ove with battling, her experiences with her Gible/Gabite/Garchomp as she grew up. They weren't gonna retire her, so needed to explain her sudden change of heart. Reconnecting with her younger self and remembering how fun she'd found it to re-inspire her to continue going forward.

You're not alone. Her popularity is like cicadas laying dormant and then swarming when the Sinnoh remakes came out. I always looked at her as just another Pokegirl, but the kids who had Sinnoh as their defining experience grew up and can voice their reverence. The same thing will happen with Unova, and then Kalos, and then Alola, and then Galar, and so on. GF and TPCi know how to groom the market to give returns down the road.

Leon is simply an objectively awful character (including the design), regardless of who you prefer. Maybe Geeta will be good.
And Cynthia does have an uber team in BDSP (relative to other champion teams), so all the wank is justified until someone can surpass that

sorry, I consider that as an abomination; an insult to the remake tradition and I will rather replay Platinum than playing BDSP. BDSP is merely a Switch port and nothing could convince me otherwise, even with few (but mediocre) improvements. I wish actual BDSP get a quality of improvement just like ORAS improved from RSE by incorporating XY gameplay, and mechanics. GF just being too lazy to implement actual remakes and decided to shill ported games as remasters (and it worked like a charm since people will buy it anyway)

I agree, BDSP isn't even a real GF game. It's just an outsourced remaster with the bare minimum of touch-ups to confirm its modernity (e.g. Fairy-type). It is the only Pokemon game I've skipped. I got Let's Go Pikachu as a gift for Christmas because people I know know that I like Pokemon, but someone else gifted me Brilliant Diamond and I turned it down. PLA is the real Sinnoh revisit, BDSP was just a perfunctory redo to avoid backlash if PLA was frowned upon. It's a shame they didn't have more confidence in PLA either, since it's the best Pokemon experience in well over a decade and they only gave it a month to breathe before moving on.

Mostly just to give Cynthia some backstory before (potentially) writing her off. And even then, it was minimal compared to what they gave Leon during the Darkest Day arc and JN100.

We won't see Cynthia much, if at all, after this arc, unless Sinnoh becomes relevant again, now that Ash has surpassed her.
