I'd even argue that Gen 1's remakes are worse at this, because if you use 6 Pokémon, you'll have mid-40s Pokémom going into the 50s-low 60s League. Winnable? Easily, but if the AI wasn't hopelessly braindead and were given decent/good movesets, it would be quite an issue. You can still have problems if you don't use items in battle and play on Set mode, which I think anyone playing Pokémon over age 10 should be doing.
