My problem is that it just doesn't make any sense. Why does it work that way? How does 'being from the future + having a trusted partner' give you the sudden ability to see visions into the past and future? It doesn't even need to be in the game.

But there's no real in-universe justification as to why she just can't travel further back in time. Usually when a power has limitations, there's an easily observable reason that follows directly from the power, i.e. Frieza doesn't automatically go full power because his stamina while using his strongest forms is very poor. Time travel is a weird power that shouldn't have any real limitations, but it has to for Celebi because of plot.
