>>51513144If it was about my personal likes and dislikes, I'd be singing a very different tune. I enjoyed Super Mystery Dungeon, Detective Pikachu (the game, not the movie), and New Pokemon Snap. My top two favorite Pokemon of all time are from
Gen 7, and there's always at least a couple new ones I like every generation. I always give credit for good ideas like Mega Evolution or Ultra Beasts. Even though I'm not happy with the franchise overall, I'm not a stick in the mud.
Having said that... just read Shudo's old blog about the miserable experience he had writing for the anime. Then there's Masuda losing his passion for Pokemon because of idiots bitching about Mt. Coronet and Gen 5. Nishida going freelance. Turner abruptly quitting to go make indie games. Tajiri withdrawing from the public eye. It's obvious that Pokemon stopped being fun behind the scenes a long time ago. Now it's just a chore that the creatives have to do year-round so the businessmen can sell more plushies. There's no charm in that.
And handwaving this all away with platitudes about kids and their pets on a comfy adventure just feels hollow after Dexit. Pokemon aren't pets anymore, they're just fungible items. Your 20+ years' worth of fond memories with the Pokemon you've caught no longer matter. The only thing that matters is rushing the next shovelware out in time for the holidays, and if your favorite can't make it in time, tough luck. Where's the charm?
