What's the deal with the Gen 5 epidemic we currently have?
When Gen 1 came out, it was universally beloved. Nowadays it is still universally beloved outside of contrarian hipsters that pretend to hate it because they think it makes them an individual.
When Gen 2 came out, it was universally beloved. Nowadays it is still universally beloved outside of pro nuzlockers and autistic webmasters.
When Gen 5 came out, it was universally berated and considered to be easily the worst Gen up to that point due to the shit Poke designs, completely linear main game, ridiculous amount of roadblocks, poor postgame, tryhard villains etc.
But nowadays Gen 5 seems to have tipped the scale a bit and is more accepted. I have 3 theories as to why this could be:
1) The 10 year olds from 2010 that had Gen 5 as their first games are now in their early 20s and have nostalgia for it (although Gen 6 still doesn't get much love despite the time passed)
2) The awfulness of Gens 7, 8 and 9 makes Gen 5 look way better by comparison (public standards have dropped)
3) Zoomers are predisposed to shit games, so they cannot rate games objectively or correctly
Which is it? Or is it all of the above?
