Why? With the exception of PLA, I generally prefer the 3DS games to the Switch games due to the Dexcut. That and the fact that I can play Gen 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 (Gen 3 too since I have a custom firmware 3DS) games on my 3DS makes the 3DS my go-to console for playing Pokemon.

Moon has better story but some things are blatantly unfinished.
Ultra moon has better battles, pokemon selection, and move tutors but the story is lamer.
Both will have a LOT of stopping for dialogue.

Play Ultra, take every opportunity you have to explore. It'll feel slow at the beginning but there is a ton of good content.
There are a lot of times that you have a chance to leave the story for a while and people assume that you can't because the next map marker is nearby.
