They were originally designed to be the "grows fast but peaks pitifully" type. You use something like Butterfree for the first couple of gyms, then you box it because its viability drops off. Any bugs that appear later take up the niche of afflicting ailments, or are purely for the Pokedex.

Even ignoring thir “early game fodder syndrome” The main issue with Bug is the most of the good things about it aren’t given to many big types (Quiver Dance, Sticky Web, tail glow) or to broadly given to non- bug types (very few Bug types get U-turn while almost every Flying type does). Then there just game freak being sprite, Stealth Rock, Making it weak to fairy, even the Bug IOA move Skitter Smack is complete shit compared to the others. Also, Bug type is resisted by over 1/3 of the game (tied with grass, however Grass at least has unique property being immune to powder moves, and most of grasses good moves are mostly exclusively to grass types. Grass types even get better abilities while most bugs jusy get swarm)

That ironically may be this issue, bugs are considered something you start off with, then leave being when you get Fire breathing dragons to fight with instead z so bugs being somewhat underpowered makes sense, but Game Freakb took it way too far. The sad thing something Bug only need some sight tweaks to make it not be a hindrance. even something as simple as NOT having fairy resist it would help. Also remove u-turn from several non-bug types. And give Bugs an innate immunity like serval other types already have

I never left mine behind. I took my Venomoth to the Elite Four. My very first run through I took Beedrill. (Fuck you transfer pak, deleting my game on Stadium)

They really need to work on Bug types learnset and what resists it. Something has to give. Its one of my favorite types and its what the franchise was based off of

Most Bug-types were early-game shits that you were supposed to replace, curiosities with other qualities than dealing damage (Spore, status powder, psychic coverage) or were rare encounters tying in to Pokemon's inspiration of bug catching.

Why do zoomers are obsessed with inventing issues where they don't exist or are not big enough to affect anything?

I cant see headbutt OHKOing her Umbreon though. Umbreon has tank level defense... I used Alakazam to fuck over her Vileplume and Gengar. Had Typhlosion Thunderpunch Murkrow. But Houndoom? That fuck was the bane of my existance. Eventually, quick claw worked and Quagsire Earthquaked him. I probably should have grinded more before taking on the elite four, but I beat all the trainers on the way to Victory Road already and battling thd wild Gravellers and Donphans was getting nowhere so I just went for it. Nonetheless, I STILL wish Heracross could learn it at at least 45.

honestly, what the earlier gens should have done is make leveling significantly faster for bugs at all stages of evolution and levels. That way, they make up for their shit stats and shit moves by simply being much overlevelled. I always thought that was supposed to be the case anyway, since bug types happen to already level and evolve a bit faster. But because it slows down once you hit final evo, it's only really helpful in early game.

In GSC, with all the non-level progression mechanics its kinda working like that.
That Ledian can keep up with late game opponents because it has stat experience, badge boosts, type badge boosts and NPCs have tendency to shoot themselves in the foot via 25% chance to fail using status moves.

They sort of do this, Early game bugs tend to be in EXP groups that require less EXP to reach level 100, its just that they're so weak that even with with extra levels they still fall off when fighting against end game bosses

That's the price for being an early game bug AND being a Gen2 mon. The only time Ledian wasn't a complete joke was GSC and even then it was a version exclusive, you could also maybe make a case for it being decent in Colosseum only because that game only had "Gen2 shitmons". Most Gen 2 Pokemon got fucked over by Gen1 pandering .

Its hilarious how people who shit on older games know so little about them. That's why the "Gen2 level curve" is such a meme. If you just stare a Bulbapedia pages about levels while listen to shitposters, then Johto's level curve would seem to make the game unplayable, but if you actually play it, (not rush through it so you can shit out a half-baked nuzlocke that you cheated in anyway I mean actually play it), the game compensates for the most part,

Its also why why people say Gen 1 is unplayable due to glitches when most of the glitches were only found years later due to people actively trying to see how far they could break the game. Meanwhile things like a bag only holding 20 items, or the game not telling you what moves even did, never come up (because those are the types of flaws you would find out by actually playing the damn games)

Holy fuck this spot on. I played Red and never once did the glitches make the game "unplayable". Most of the glitches you have to actively seek out too. None of them are like this hypothetical example, you are battling Brock and you hit his Onyx with a fire move, the game goes into a loop where you have to shut it off. No the glitches are nothing like that.

Yeah I agree anon, you figure it out by playing the fucking game. Bunch of annoying pansies who never played the games turning it into something its not. Same with Johto and the level curve.

Yes I've seen it. In defense, the person who made that did it for all gens. Regardless, this list is really just a bunch of nitpits and edgecases (interesting for a trivia page about how the series has grown over time, but not a genuine critique). Most of these are technically flaws, but like you said none of it "breaks" the game. especially not during an average playthrough
Hell, some of these aren't even "flaws" just different mechanics, Bosses and enemies often have different rules than the player, Crits using speed is logical, and Swift hitting Pokémon during invulnerable stats is how Toxic works currently if used by Poison Types. .

psychic was nothing compared to normal type, personally I put it equal to water in typing in gen 1. it's pokemon are frail and can't soak ice and water like water type can.

psychic gets so much credit in gen 1 just because of mewtwo and mew who benefit less from the typing and more from absurd stat and move spread. the top 3 best pokemon are normal types, the most powerful move is normal type, the games meta is centered around the 3 top tier normal type pokemon. they also don't get paralyzed from body slam.
