bosses didn't get challenging until USUM. the only totem in SM that's remotely challenging is Mimikyu and that's just because of a bullshit ability and a STAB combo that's difficult to handle.

How do people have difficulties with this series. I don't think since I was 5 playing gen 1 that I ever got "stuck" on a battle. Literally just farm. I leveled Pikachu up in yellow to learn quick attack just to beat Brock and people are struggling in a game with xp share?
And honestly I don't think I've ever fainted completely since MAYBE black/white and it was because I was lazy and didn't want to go to pokecenter.

Gym leaders aren't the difference, its the unique buffs totems get at the start of fights. If gym leaders were allowed to use unique mechanics they'd be hard too.
