>>51528756I'll tell you why Cynthia matters to me. I started with Gen 1 and spent so much time in Gen 2 filling out my Dex and collecting my favorites together. I hung around the ruins of Alph constantly and was fascinated by the lore teased in the game. Then gen 3 came and there was just... Nothing. Disconnected lore. No way to move the creatures up. It was so sad.
Then along came gen 4. The Unown came back. The ruins came back. And Cynthia was in there, reading the Unown and explaining the world's history. She brought a surge of nostalgia for Johto and its ruins. She is the link between the generations, and the first character who took the Pokemon world from the realm of geological history to cultural history. She was the first gesture at a truly interconnected history of the world. And then they made if official by having her guide you to meet god in the Arceus event.
And then PLA happened. This character is beyond a sensation. She holds together so much of the history of the world just with her person, in ways both known and unknown to her. She's easily one of the most interesting and meaningful characters I've ever seen.
