Why is it pure flying

Why did they do it? Is this finally proof that Game Freak has stopped caring? Is this the broken back of the camel's straw? They broke "the rule". Why did they do it?

Normal to me means a lack of a type. An average joe. Something that can easily be beaten by stronger pokémon (fighting types). Adding normal type to another one is…why? The ghost immunity is nice but I don’t get what makes something normal but also elemental

Normal/Flying = It’s a normal creature that flies through the air
Just Flying = It’s pure air elemental (like Tornadus) except this one bird is the exception somehow

Flying should have never been a type, it should have been wind or something like that and be used for elemental types, while "flying" should have been a tag or something like levitate.

I agree. I wish we got more wind/air elemental themed Pokémon that didn’t need to be birds. Only ones I can think of that really fit that are the genies, Fan Rotom and the Drifloon line.

I say it's part this, part GF being obsessed with monotypes in Gen 8, and part GF messing around with primary and secondary type classifications also in Gen 8 as the only other Gen 8 Flying-type that's not based on any previous Pokémon, Cramorant, also has Flying as its primary type.

Gyarados/Jumpluff/Mantine/Shaymin-Sky/Minior/Celesteela are all flying types but not birds.
To be honest there ain't that much but they're there.
