Tell me right now, gameplay-wise, what is the defining difference between an alternate form of a Pokemon, and an entirely new species?
New type? New stats? New evolution method or evolution? New movepool? New appearance? All of these things and more are different. It's entirely arbitrary. There's no reason that Slowking can't be Johtonian Slowbro, or Galar Slowking can't be Slowitch. Or why Purrserker isn't Galarian Persian or etc. etc.
Wiglett further exemplifies this issue because it's the inverse. Of course this is purely a lore thing, there's no mechanical point to "regional fakes". All this regional shit has done is make things confusing and awkward as hell, and now we're stuck with loads of regional forms with no rhyme or reason to their distribution that just are a part of an older Pokemon now.
