Do people actually consider it a Pikaclone? It's a rabbit, only Marill was a mouse and even then that's just a loose justification for being a clone when every generation after had a very explicit Pikachu based Pokemon right down to being Electric type.

Because Gen2 was before “Pikaclonesl were actually a thing. it wasn’t made to take be Pikachu’s replacement like other gen’s “Pikaclones”. It was made to be its a counterpart to Pikachu but existed along side Pikachu so it had to be unique.

A long time ago rabbits used to be counted as rodents if I remember correctly from high school. Personally I dont consider Azu or Mimikyu pikaclones but I dont mind seeing them in art with the rest of the guys

Because it’s a Raichu clone, not a Pikaclone. Marill is basically the only Pikaclone to evolve

Regardless of the whole 'rodents' arguments, Pikachu is (unsurprisingly) a Pika, not a mouse.
A Pika is a lagomorph, just as rabbits are.
