What's the point of ROM Hacks? Sure they're "fun" for a limited time, but connectivity and the pokemon you potentially had as a child still being playable in games that are released today are a huge, necessary selling point of official games.
Your "bros" will not exist outside of the ROM hack. They will not encounter new journeys and lands. They will not be able to interact with your official pokemon. Your time with them is a minute detour, signifying nothing, and the more that you're invested into your ROM hack playthrough, the greater the feelings of sadness and futility are.
Why do you play ROM hacks? And no, don't say "fun". You have to be a psychopath to build up relationships with your mons in them only to say 'okay you don't actually exist outside of this tiny blip of data' unlike official pokemon.
