Like, if Scizor or Garchomp couldn't be in the game I would say "aww damn, that sucks. What a shame. Okay, who else is in the game that I can use instead!?"
And then I would go and do that since there are plenty of other cool mons I'd want to use.
Not to mention that I would never use garchomp for an in-game playthrough anyways. I like to use cool pokemon, but if they're too powerful in-game I won't use them or I will intentionally make them weaker.
And I almost always switch up who I use in a new gen anyways. I don't think I've ever really repeated mons for in-game teams across any generation.
For all intents and purposes, there has always been a dexit within my playthroughs as I never really care to bring mons with me to future games.
I think you lack perspective if you really believe that the majority of players bring their pokemon forward so they can always have their favourites in the game. Much like how /vp/ has a warped sense of reality and think that most people buy both versions of a game.
