even if they wanted to somehow undo Puke-cario shilling (which I doubt), it wouldn't work if they push Machamp without any competitive tools to make up for it. Puke-cario may have the worst cancerous looks but all the favoritism it had over the years gave it so much to work with in competitive play. That can't be undone by a single generation

Speaking of Lucario, did GameFreak ever give any explanation on why they gave it Meteor Mash?
The answer is obviously "lol shillmon" but I was wondering if they ever even bothered with some other pretext.

Meteor Mash is literally just a punching attack, hence why it's boosted by Iron Fist (despite no Pokemon with Iron Fist learning the move). Despite the name (Comet Punch in Japanese), it has nothing to do with meteors or comets. It's basically just Bullet Punch, except it's one strong punch instead of a flurry of weak ones.
