Yeah, I just replayed blue and there are a few interesting things.

A few look less than their finalized artwork even compared to the original RG so it seems some things weren't entirely agred upon.

I don't think he forgot to outline, he just forgot to leave room for the nail(which weren't in the original design). If you try to draw over to fill it out you'll see how it's hard to make it look good with the nail unless you go over the yellow

the star is the star of David. This is a jewish pokemon, dumbass LOL. It may also be a reference to Satan and the only design problem with it is that Alakazam loses it.
While the hand mistake is unforgivable, him having 3 fingers in one hand and 4 in the other is pathetic, a cripple and most likely why he even did this although a poor solution. Overall his drawing is amazing and the design better with better features and colors.

The first design is actually better, the sprite is obnoxious obviously but with the right fixes it would be better than le fat ugly fag with le small flower. The tree with leaves was much more forest-like and cool, have a better sense of nature and even the sense of the design of a toad hiding under plantation. Although the second sprite is still better than modern Venusaur and still got a little of tree trunk

Kadabra's sprite also has a different numbers of fingers on each hand (3 on left, 4 on right).
Sugimori probably realized the mistake in the sprite he was using as a reference too late and instead of scrapping the artwork and drawing it again, he tried to fix it poorly.

Let's face it, as much as I love Sugimori and how much of an inspiration he has been for me as a artsy kid, his early art wasn't always great .

I think my favorite Sugimori style is from the Gen4 era, I like his early watercolors but not how he drew humans (I don't like Toriyama's style either).

His art is still cool imo, the issue the artworks are having now is mostly caused by the fact that he no longer draws all of them and some of the other artists aren't as good and their art looks like weird/edgy Sugimori wannabe garbage.
Last game to have a cohesive artwork style despite being worked on by different hands was ORAS imo.
I thought they couldn't steep lower than Gen8 with artworks' lack of cohesion but sadly Gen9 is proving me wrong.

Nah, he realized he only gave the spoon hand 3 fingers, so he had to improvise, also a star at that scale wouldn't have read well, the symbols are actually from "zener cards" that were popular for psychic stuff in the 70's, probably just added after the fact because he looks plain without them.
