How do people remember which type beats another? I barely remember basic types, but how people remember all other types?

Muscle memory. I think everyone makes minor mistakes every now and then that they attribute to their own little headcanons (I consistently think Bug is weak to Ice for some reason) but it's mostly just repetition. I don't even mind the games providing a type guide in-battle now, it's a good thing to have.

I have zero knowledge of fairy type and they've changed type matchups and made moves like powers not affect grass type etc
I deadass rely on the game to tell me effectiveness

Not him, but yes. It's really not that much information.

The vast majority of it I can recall without an image, and my memory is absolute shit. The rest I can get by just thinking through the individual type MUs. From there, any dual types are self explanatory.

There you go, you don't even have to remember anything. Once you've seen a Pokemon the newer games just tell you the weaknesses anyway

And almost every weaknesses and resistance have a little bit of logic behind it

Fire melt steel
Birds prey on bugs
Poison kills Plants
Electricity doesn't affect ground
Same way it conducts on water
Physics are "over" ghosts and stuff
And so on
Is a mix of.common sense with the typing
