Slim pokedex is a bold move to incorporate all gens that fails and ultimately undercuts the already paltry dex by making the region feel VERY uninspired. Also, inclusion of exp share in it's new iteration should have pushed trainers to having comparable amounts of pokemon against your team, the under-stocking of team rosters barely scraped by in the Unova games due to lack of exp share and stronger teams. In Kalos, they cripple rosters in number and strength to the point where the game is autopilot. Couple this with a boring story, and you have a clear down-trend in quality that is more obvious than Kalos despite mostly furthering the issues those games introduced.
