Is a mixed bag. Some people here use the English names because those are the games we got earlier on and are the names the anime goes with.
With emulation however a lot of people used to play the Spanish version so I remember seeing the Spanish names as far back as gen 3. Personally I don't see issues with the characters' names.
HOWEVER everyone agrees the Spain names for the moves are dogshit.

Also contador is counter, as in, a device that counts, it was poorly translated from English, little else, since accountant is contable.

accountant is also how you call a contador in the sense of a person who does accounting. But yeah I think Spain ran into a false friend at the time they translated that and many other stuff.
Kinda how bizarre and bizarro weren't originally the same meaning but people false friended the thing so much it ended up transforming the spanish word.

Honestly some names in Spanish are kinda cooler.
I prefer how Magno and Aquiles sounds, even if I am more used to Maxie and Archie because of dealing more with the English fanbase.
