Tyranitar is the oldest Pokemon that has been in every Gen and Uber at the same time in every single Gen. The only other Pokemon older than Gen 5 that can claim that was Starmie (it missed out in the last two Gens) and Skarmory (who missed out due to Dexcut).

Is it really that difficult for Game Freak to give a Rock-type Pokémon that isn't Tyranitar competent stats? It's not like it will ruin the VGC.

rock is just a generally shitty type with shit gimmicks, and one of it's two good gimmicks it did have they let a ton of non-rock types have it. tyrantitar needed psuedo-legendary stats plus an immediately active sandstorm buff to bring it up to where it is.

the difference between that and other types is it has to circumvent rocks inherent weaknesses, which are greater than the average types problems.
