Hi again, I’m that idiot who left a bunch of Pokémon cards in his attic for 22 years and just found out he had three mint condition shadowless 1st edition Charizards. Oops.

Okay, so here’s my plan:

I’ve got a huge pile of other cards, and I’ll need help going through them, deciding what to do with them, etc.

I think I’ll probably get a bunch of binders and sleeves and stuff, organize them somewhat, and then post pics of them here so people can maybe point out which ones to single out for grading. Sounds like a plan?

You don't need us to point out anything, do your work.
1. Sort in piles, ideally by set if not by year
---Set aside the ones you feel something for/wouldn't part with---
2. Open a spreadsheet
3. Price it out using Sold eBay listings or TCG market value
4. Make binder pages
5. Take shitty photos
6. Throw those on an eBay auction as "Lot"
Retard paypiggies will take it

Those sticker sheets are the most interesting thing in the collection, I think. I believe they were a promo that Blockbuster did where you could bring in your n64 cartridge for Pokémon Snap and print out photos you took in the game.

I can see where that might be hard to believe but it’s true. I went to some amusement park in California (universal, idk?) and my crazy relative just spent all day taking me to this shop there that sold Japanese card packs and stockpiling.

Tbh I hated it at the time, and that’s probably when I swore off Pokémon cards - I just got completely burned out that day. I was only into them in the first place because everyone else was, and at the time it seemed like a complete waste of the day.

Salmonella isn't going to hurt his cards though, and it isn't absorbed through the skin. It dies on dry surfaces after just a few hours so resist licking your binder for a day and you'll be fine.

Cards rotating matters when the card in question is a meta pick for decks, once it's no longer allowed to be used, it's worth plummets (usually).

Not all players, but yes it's very common for players to "bling out" their decks with the highest rarity of all their cards.

The jap one is the master then the US team tries to get it to fit the language. I don't get why they left all that empty space in the rule box that could show more art but the other anon thinks that looks good so what do I know. The printer tries to copy the holo design and texture as close as they can. The whole process once it leaves japan is just a series of "close enough" until it gets printed.

English one is miscut, lacks texture (looks like your mom's fingerprints) & shine (even with a new angle, I doubt it is as shiny as the JP one), the "Ancient Star" text isn't aligned with the centered VSTAR Power. Japanese one wins in this picture 100%.

They aren't center aligned or left aligned or anything like that. The attacks start a specific point on the card and move left in both english and japanese. Look at where the text starts for the Vstar power attack and where the text starts on the regular attack name. They start at the exact same spot on the card and move right. It has absolutely nothing to do with the text border above it.

Some of it's give and take and some of it is just plain better. English has raised fonts, except for the VMAX symbol for some reason which is raised on Japanese cards. Portions of the frame are contextually textured while Japanese frames are not. Japan has wasted space in the rules box for some reason but we also have wasted space in this specific case around the VSTAR Power box, but that's simply the nature of western vs eastern characters. Holography in English is consistent and not warped into a design but that's more down to personal preference. Japan has inferior swirls while English ones are more prominent. Japan has no rarity symbols while everyone else gets holographic stars.

It's really up to you. Even vintage bulk isn't particularly expensive and I doubt modern bulk is ever going to come anywhere close to that. There's so many sets now that collectors are never going to start putting put the money to buy all the random bulk outside of maybe a few exceptionally desired sets.

For me personally, I feel good enough just keeping bulk safely stored in an ETB. I'll sleeve cards I like because naturally I just want to take care of them. And I'll occasionally sleeve some random reverse rares/sets because hey, you never know what could end up being a Noble Victories Chandelure situation. But for the most part keeping bulk pristine just isn't worth the cost and effort of sleeving so many cards.

So...yeah i bought 4 top loaders and paid 4 dollars. 1$ for 1 toploader..and those were USED toploaders full of scratches.

But i see that you can buy a whole box of NEW toploaders (picrel) for 7-8 dollars...what the fuck.
Im new to this hobby and was just impatient and opened boosters and got some rare pikachu Vs so i wanted to protect them right now and went to the comic store i found in google maps.
PS:
They also had a trainer box for 70$...same box tha you can buy on amazon for 40$.
From now on i will always have a toploader and couple of sleeves in my bag just in case.
(i know 4$ is not that much and not that much of a scam..but still... their price was obviously not correct. You can buy either 7 toploaders from that store or buy a whole box of 25 toploaders for 7$ from Amazon)

Just got back into collecting cards recently and I've got a question. Where would be the best place to get stuff like the Build & Battle Boxes, tins, etc on the launch date of a set? Near me I've got Gamestop, Target, Best Buy and Walmart. There's also a card shop but they sell jacked up prices on everything so I definitely won't be going there for packs and stuff.

I'm going to give you some info based on pull rates and what averages seem to be across booster boxes starting from Chilling Reign onward:

Expect:
>Roughly 8 ultra rare cards (not including trainer gallery). This means things that are regular V and above in rarity
>Expect roughly 4-6 trainer gallery cards (if the set has it)
>Expect roughly 1 secret rare in a box (though, some boxes only have a full art trainer and no secret rare)

That's about it. Each set will have their own specific pull rates per specific card. Expect anywhere from 1/500-1/1000 for a specific gold card or specific alt art V, expect one in 1/2000 for a specific alt art vmax.

If you are a person that is looking at it from a financial perspective or as a person trying to "chase" cards, you will likely be extremely disappointed frequently. And on the odd time you do hit your big winning item, how long will that high last? Lost Origin has two major hit items, Aeodactyl alt art and Giratina alt art. Your odds of pulling one are slim, your odds of pulling both are minuscule. If you got one, would you not be satisfied until you got the other?

If you don't have a chasing mindset with opening packs you will have a MUCH better time. Buy cards that you want as singles, open packs on the side for fun but only treat that as a money losing endeavor done strictly for the fun of opening. You'll start to hate packs if you open trying to chase.

Of course, if you have tons of disposable income, do whatever you want.

the actual number of cards in the set is 247.

If counting 151 secret rare cards from the first secret rare (Dark Raichu), we get into the Guardians Rising set, released for the Sun&Moon series in 2017...

That's because there are no trainer gallery secret rares. Secret rare pull rates are much more difficult than trainer gallery Vmax cards. Secret rares are ONLY in the regular set. Trainer galleries occupy a different slot with a different count in a different pool.
