>>51633036I may be biased because I grew up with SoulSilver and didn't really play the original Gen 2 games until my late teens, but I really have to disagree with the statement "they ruined a lot of the soundtrack". I think the right phrase would be "they took a new spin on the soundtrack and updated it to modern standards". It's still familiar and nostalgic, but there's a new life breathed into some of the tracks that really help to modernize them, instead of just merely updating them.
What they did to the HGSS soundtrack is the reason why I love those games so much, because it sums up the remakes in a nutshell: faithful to the source material, but not just a copy-paste. Compare the HGSS OST to LGPE or BDSP and it's night and day. BDSP is just the same arrangements as the originals but with updated instruments, and LGPE is literally just the original tracks converted to MIDI and each track assigned to a Kontakt instrument.
I understand why some people might prefer the "take the original and just update it" approach, but I personally view it as really lazy and uncreative. We now even have a direct comparison of these two approaches with Legends: Arceus and BDSP. Sure, the Lake Theme in BDSP is fine and it sounds good enough, but in Legends: Arceus they took it to a new level with the arrangement and creative liberty they took with it.
Those are just my thoughts.
