To be fair, most of BBND weren't great either, but at least they were fighting to make the games better, not worse.

The loss of things you can do with your Pokémon hurts more. Having all the Pokémon available was the only thing setting Pokémon apart from other RPGs. After that was gone, there was nothing left to justify playing them.
