people remember the battle frontier fondly mainly because it was a lot of fans first experience with EV's IV's and competitive team building in general.

There are certainly problems with the battle frontier, but I like that there are actual stakes to maintaining a winning streak. Losing to rng is annoying, but that's been a problem in Pokemon games forever.

It would've been great if gf kept the frontier and improved on it, but unfortunately they gave it upup.

The part of all this that ticked me off the most is that gen 6 was the perfect gen for the Battle Frontier because of how easy it was to get into the competitive scene. Everyone would have been balls deep in every facility, even if they didn't necessarily complete every single one or even get any gold medals. It would be the definitive Battle Frontier experience, better than gen 3 or 4's by a mile. Such a waste, a real shame.

What it does have however is SOVL, lots of it
Polar opposites to the Battle Tower, belongs next to it

I think the biggest reason they got rid of it is because they want people to go online. Sw/Sh included rentals for you to use online. They seem to think anything and everything you want is already in-game, just with other players and online. "Why should we program in modes, just make fun rules with friends". Remember, TPC/GF is still a Japanese company and you can meet up with friends irl with like, a 2 hour train ride.

To be fair, ever since its inception Pokemon has revolved around playing with a friend (particularly trading). And they tried expanding the stories and lore from gens 2 onward, but now the stories are shit and there's a big focus on online. Kind of like clockwork I guess.

I honestly believe if TPC thought they could get away with it, that the Pokemon games would be nothing but Stadium, purely online and maybe some mobile-phone mini-games. We're so close and you know Creatures/GF would love to ditch the console and go full mobile.

I think people like the idea of the Battle Frontier more than actually playing it. For as big of a deal people made about it not being in ORAS and BDSP, I bet most haven't completed it in Emerald or Platinum/HGSS.

Yeah I've tried a few times in gen 4's, but I feel like there's so much rng involved that it makes it feel more like a chore. There's a couple of facilities I might occasionally play, but it just stings when run ends because of bad luck.

please understand that recent games have made building a comp team a lot easier. Kids were discouraged from doing battle facilities if they didnt have a gameshark or action replay or someway to edit mons because of how bad breeding and ev training was.
Nowadays comp mons are easy to build (but you should still pkhex or sysbot) and people are thirsting for the variety of modes, priestige, ribbons, and challenge of a frontier but no modern games feature that or even triple battles or subways or PWT (which never got a ribbon)

But they did.
Game Freak just realized that you'll buy it anyway, so why put in effort into something that only 10% of the playerbase will touch?

And also the Battle Tree and BDSP Battle Tower but can't fit those in one image. But it's not like SV will even have a Battle Tower in the first place. Now before you say "how do you know that?" Just look at how SwSH's Battle Tower was treated. It's the same way how the amount of Pokemon in each game was handled

I'd say the PWT test different skills than most of the usual battle facilities, especially with the Type Expert limitations. I could say the same for Trainer Tower, Black Tower/White Treehollow, and I guess the Battle Pyramid focusing more on navigation challenges. This isn't even getting into the puzzle shit like Battle Sims and Pokestar Studios. But if you just want the "fuck you" option with no setup, at least Battle Factory works (Battle Agency would if it didn't require online integration to be not completely fucking awful).

The streak system can be too unforgiving and RNG is too harsh here but overall the Battle Frontiers are based. I'd probably just rebalance the Pike and Palace a bit.

It's supposed to be a hardcore time sink. I actually prefer the way the Stadium games did it in their cupes, where getting perfect wins would give you spendable continues. That's a nice balance of punishing losses with at least some protection against wiping out your entire progress to one fatal instance of bad luck.

tower is cancer because the gold requirement asks you to go 70 battles undefeated only for you to get swept by quick claw, fissure rhydon on battle 67 and then they make you slog through 35 teams of NFEs and shitmons until you get to have interesting battles again

The thing that annoys me most about the battle frontier is that it only appeared in games where EVs were impossible to even know about without a guide, and IV breeding was almost entirely just rerolling for insane odds. You have to do both of those to stand a chance anywhere outside of the factory, and there's basically no chance anyone would figure out how if they were just playing the game normally as intended.
ORAS was the only time the battle frontier would have actually made sense, considering all of gen 6's improvements to competitive training/breeding, but they just couldn't be bothered.

Everyone likes the battle factory BECAUSE you don’t have to do any training and can just try it right away. Plus it’s genuinely fun to have to use random mons, it’s a type of variety that you won’t get from any other aspects of the game

In those gens it wasn't a requirement to get perfect stats, just adequate stats with some pretty good spreads and emphasis on a few. You can get Pokémon with Outstanding Potential and the only thing you are losing out on is maybe you get 2HKO'd more often to non STAB super effective moves without recovery. You can definitely play around the deficit.

You know, I always thought Pokemon Stadium features would become a standard part of the main series one day. The idea just makes sense, you know? Level 100 rematches against gym leaders and the E4 with a special prize at the end. All sorts of different cups to test different teambuilding skills with rental options. A bunch of weird minigames to mess around in. An announcer to hype up big battles.
