why did they ruin a perfectly unique animal by slapping dinosaur traits on it like every other gen 1 big pokemon

I know that Electabuzz being a tiger is the hardest part to believe, but its gorilla traits are due to the mixture of its elements being basically an Oni of storms (Raijin) fused with its clothes (Tiger skin), that's why that this is considered the tiger in the Chinese calendar (even when Incineroar already existed) and is used as a parody for the Japanese team of Baseball, Hanshin Tigers.
