Never seen a cat fight? My cat's lost a couple teeth in a fight,my neighbour's old cat from 20 year ago broke a claw, I've walked out and seen clumps of fur from fights both seemingly won and lost (my cat's hair vs other cats' hair) lying around. It's no more than that and not intended to be as grimdark as your western brain wants it t be.

I'm not a fan of the mechanic, but don't bear claws grow back? Maybe for every pokemon based on a real life animal with finite resources you will always get tufts or fur or something like that, but for other pokemon it'll be things that they can grow back.

For example real life sharks grow thousands of teeth during their lifetime, so I wouldn't be surprised if the sharpedo resource is "sharpedo tooth"

Presumably the implication is that it's material that falls off during the battle, pretty sure you're not walking over to the defeated Pokemon and ripping out its teeth and claws. I don't really have an issue with it, it'd be ridiculous to assume there are no stakes for wild Pokemon when they lose a battle.

I can tell you've never owned a dog before, animals with any kind of fur that isn't extremely short shed like crazy, which is why the fur is referred to as "tufts". You've got it backwards, the idea of an animal losing a claw either means it was broken or ripped out, both of which would be pretty painful.

Pokemon is known for being a non-violent franchise, so having Pokemon suddenly drop parts of themselves when you defeat them is weird, when up until now, Pokemon have been depicted as being completely unharmed after battles.

Pokémon has never implied non-violence, obviously they don't usually ""show"" it in the games or anime but it's mentioned all the time in Pokédex entries. From Pokémon attacking trainers to fighting each other. Some Pokédex entries even mention them being tasty.

When you're cutting an animals nails you don't slice off the quick.
Besides these things can regenerate from being blasted by dragons and elder gods by taking a nap.
I doubt that losing a tooth will kill them. You gotta decide which pokemon canon you want to follow. They can get gored and maimed and get up and walk it off. Or they are brutalising each other in legalised cockfights.

It's literally about creatures fighting until one of them is unconscious, it's pretty fucking violent. They just gloss over the implications and consequences of all that violence most of the time. What do you think happens to Pokemon you KO in the wild? Presumably they just like there until they eventually gain consciousness and limp back home to recuperate. There's a massive period of time where they can be attacked and eaten by a predator. The idea of wild Pokemon suffering enough battle damage to lose fur, claws, and teeth doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

It is padding but adding a (presumably) tiny bit of busywork in order to get an item when you need it does lead to a more satisfying experience than just having an infinite use TM. If the drop rate is poor then it might be shitty, but they made it look as if you'll very regularly get stuff from Let's Go battle wins.

So does this mean that if there are purchasable TMs, like at a battle facility or something similar, it'll only be a one time purchase that also unlocks the ability to make it yourself? Which probably means that they're going to be much more expensive than they usually are.
