In the manga Brendan/Ruby is Norman's son (and also a bit of a sissy) while May/Sapphire is Birch's daughter.

In ORAS, Brendan's promotional art shows him with a tan. Having lived in the sub-tropical hoenn his whole life, this makes sense. His sportswear implies that he is often outdoors hence the tan.

May is alabaster white just like her father. She is also the gym leader's daughter in the anime too
