The ryuu ending can refer to so many things. Even discounting the obviousy current joke as only half of it, because it can also refer to dinosaur, a pun that's been made before to change dinosaur into dragons in other media, it's totally applicable here.
In fact, this means that even the mega evolution doesn't discount the original intention.
