Discussion time. It's been 25 years. How is Pokemon still relevant? What is the magic behind this franchise, that makes the games, series, tcg still alive? I mean, the games are not challenging, the story isn't that good, and the graphics are kinda meh. The series is pretty flawed, and way too much filler. The tgc never seems to balance, and the collector side has just become a moneygram for scalpers. What makes us fall so in love with this franchise? And how did they manage to stay relevant for so long? (This is no hate, I absolutely love Pokemon. Just wanna read your thoughts.)

>>51684079 I blame Pokemon Go. It brought back all the most blindly faithful consumerists and nostalgiabros to keep this franchise going for another 25 years.

Emotional attachment through the monster raising aspect & how expanded it is. Ever since it came out as the winner of the 5th Gen monster raising series wars it can't lose. Some people will move on but a sizeable amount of people still growing up or manchilds will stick around, buy everything, and that base to keep it as an established franchise that'll forever be able to gather a new generation of kids that'll then be the manchild that are still into the franchise

I remember the absolute madness, so your take is that Go had such a great ripple effect for Pokemon in general, damn.

I think the games have remained fun and familiar and that makes it easy for multiple generations of people to share it without friction. The lifeblood of pokemon is the community. Even if pokemon games stopped entirely, there would be so many artists, fangames, and tournaments all hosted by the fans. It is a part of *global* culture

>>51684137 I very much agree with this.
I just wonder how it got so huge. I mean, yes: everyone is able to pick it up. And it's good fun. But is that enough to become the titan it has?

>>51684115 This is true, but it also begs the question of what kept the games selling 10+ million copies long enough for Go to be the second coming of Pokemania. Keeping short to bump thread.
