I'd rather not, honestly. That means that it gets an ability that changes it form. I'd rather keep Serene Grace and instead have an item that changes its form outside of battle.

I really hope that there are two different versions of it with like a unique ability or something, sort of like Toxtricity, maybe with different stats maybe not, I just think Dunsparce deserves it and form changing Pokémon are (usually) shitmons, the only good one I can think of is Aegislash who’s minmaxed as hell, and it’s hard to use Zen Mode G Darm despite how much I love it

They were replaced , they did not disappear, it still has two abilities. Dunsparce’s evolution will still have three abilities, primary, secondary and hidden just like its pre-evo. One or more will be replaced, this alternate form might be the one or one of the ones to replace one of the old abilities.

I really hope it doesn’t. When I heard the leak I initially thought it was gonna be like that and I was in complete despair. I don’t like split evolutions or the shit they did with Toxtricity. Alternate form is more interesting, especially if it’s linked with an ability. Makes the Pokemon more versatile and can use more than one set.

You’re thinking in meta way too much, the joy of battling with a Pokémon is making as much sets as possible out of it regardless of viability or how gimmicky they are. If it’s hard for you to use Zen Mode G-Darmanitan, you’ve either never actually tried it, or you’re just not good at the game and cannot pull it off. Or perhaps you’re way too much fixated in winning so other factors in the joy of battling are unnecessary. I use meta sets but I also love to try and win with gimmicky sets more and most of the time as well. I don’t care about losing as long as I use my bros with as much sets I can come up with.

Didn’t think about that one. I still hope it retains its other abilities, would be a bummer if it becomes a one dimensional Pokémon as far as its ability goes. I’m at least hoping that it has Serene Grace in addition to a form-changing ability.

If that’s true, then coupled with the faithful design of the evo, I feel like GameFreak are treating Dunsparce very generously. It’s like it’s treasured by them. Maybe Tajiri came up with the concept early on and they’re respecting his creation. I just feel like someone senior in GameFreak is supervising Dunsparce.

yeah if the Darmanitans are any warning they are pretty niche and the pay off is underwhelming, it could work if you make the form have insane stats.

Base Darms are great wallbreakers/sweepers on there own the but the zen modes you gotta lose half your hp and the Darms are already pretty frail.

Fire/psychic zen mode as low speed,140 sp.atk and okay bulk but its already lost half it's hp to activate

ice/fire is a step in the right direction 160 atk and 135 speed is insane and has a very unique typing but the problem is you have to give up fucking Gorilla tactics one of the strongest abilities in the game. If Gorilla tactics didn't exist the zen mode would have been great.

Part of Darm's problem is that the form change reverses dependent on its HP. When Zygarde changes, you can maintain the form change even after using a recovery move. Darm switches back and forth. Makes it doubly difficult to craft sets for their alternate form. Although certainly in this case becoming more offensive at lower HP is leagues better than becoming more defensive.
