>>51691570Pokemon is a roleplaying game. A good deal of the enjoyment comes from having the freedom to choose how to solve problems. You pick a role, and you play it.
For example in Elona you can solve a problem through combat, but you can also solve that same problem by farming, or playing the piano, or prostituting yourself, or eugenics, or by nuking a town, or by turning a god into your sex slave. All of those options have their own upsides and downsides and none is necessarily the best.
Even if I always solve my problems with combat, the presence of the other options enriches the experience. Now I am choosing to solve my problems with combat, rather than that being the only option I had available. It gives me a sense of agency.
Farming in Pokemon was never that great, it takes a lot of time and it doesn't help you out much. But the idea of being able to solve problems by farming is interesting and I would like to see it expanded, not removed.
