The Pidgey line is my favorite in the series. So this + the mega Pidgeot got in ORAS make me pretty proud of the tiny bird family.

Pidgeotite is also technically in XY. It’s the mysterious stone Tierno finds. It’s a shame we never got Z with all of ORAS’s mega stones added in to remedy that.

Technically, the Pidgey isn't even the first encounter you have, that would be the rival fights at the start. Most other Pokemon game also have a first fixed fight before you can encounter wild Pokemon. What's the point of just having Pidgey every time? I've never heard a good reason for it. It may not be bad game design, but I'm not sure it's good game design either.

Most of them are complaining about the Kanto pandering aspect rather than the actual design philosophy of having a fixed first encounter. That's if they're even complaining at all and not some other unrelated comment containing all those words.

Really? You've never heard of how in SMB Miyamoto wanted to introduce the most simple enemy first, but also position it near the first powerup which closely resembles it to show the difference between the two? I don't know what Pidgey shows off at that early stage of the game, especially since there's nothing to interact with the type matchup chart. Do they want you to get hit by Sand Attack? Is it to show off an older Pokemon using the new 3D graphics? If not, why not the version exclusive bug types from Kanto, that's a much more valuable thing to show off and they're definitely rarer so a player could actually miss them if they're incredibly unlucky.
Regardless, in spite of how baffling it all is, I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad. What is bad is the 100% catch rate on this route and the first route of ORAS, just straight up fucking lie to the player. You know, maybe what rubs be wrong about both of these situations is that the game isn't even consistent about what it does. It's the same reason context sensitivity fucks me right off a lot of the time.

You damn well know the entire point was to trigger nostalgia in Gen 1 fans. Numerous points in XY are shrewdly designed to do that, such as the forest being a copy of Viridian Forest or Team Flare's base be modeled after Team Rocket's right down to looking for an elevator key.
