The games are still fun to me and will remain that so long as they have the base amount of content. Pokemon uniquely offers
- The variety of units
- The depth/breadth of the battle system
- The permanence offered by cross-game transfer
- The general chill mood of mindless grinds but also higher stakes with online battles
- The fuckhuge community
No other game series would fill this position. No other game will let me have the same little creature from when I was 14 with me now I'm 30 across four generations of consoles while having dumb shit like shinies to hunt/grind for, online competitive battles, and fifty fucking layers to the battle system to make theory crafting this fun.
Of course I have my complaints about the games, which I've discussed plenty with people. These games have plenty to criticize. But as long as a Pokemon game has a story, online battles, shinies, and some cute shit to do, I'll probably still get 100 - 200 hours out of it at least.
The only way I see myself stopping is if they completely drop all form of transferring Pokemon to new games and/or permanently drop the mainline battle system.
