Fighting gym leaders to get to the champion is a narrative. Catching all the pokemon is a narrative. Pokemon literally can't exist without a narrative, unless you make some Roblox mod where you catch pokemon and they vanish out of existence every time and nothing develops, you just throw balls for no reason.
