I never played Gold or Heart Gold, only Silver and Soul Silver. I never even bothered to see how the story events with Ho-Oh unfolded.

Gen 2 had bugs and the mechanics of the game are out of date due to the null balance of types... the natures did not even exist lol
Modern Pokemon start with Gen 3 and if you want to play Gen 2 I play the remakes.

Gold sprites are uglier than the Silver ones. They did them first so they are more bland and generic, some are just recolored sprites from gen 1.

I always preferred Silver as a kid because Lugia is fucking kino. It helps that in 2000 (still around the time of Pokemania) that it was the main character, whereas Ho-Oh never had its own movie.

To this day, Lugia is still my all-time favorite legendary.

But Ho-oh is just a cooler Fearow. It wasn't as popular as Lugia when G/S were new, especially because Ho-oh was not featured in a movie at the time.
