Define "Good", because Bellossom is plenty good and early available. Just because somethings not good for competitive is different from being shitty in all other contexts. People really need to stop considering everything that's not OU as a shitmon. Shitmon is for stuff like Ledian who suck even in single player campaign, much less battle facilities.

yeah it's almost like older games intended for you to invest in individual pokemon that you actually like regardless of how good/shit they are so you build a bond with them instead of just treating it like something you have to min/max in order to complete the game ASAP so you can feel the only accomplishment you've felt in years

It's not even that. Use a fucking TM. There's a reason so many pre-Gen5 TM's were "bad" moves like Water Gun. It's because you were meant to use them then and there to patch up your mons learnset at early levels. Teach your level 7 Hoppip TM09 Bullet Seed, it's literally what it's for.

This is Gen4 though, Carrying a true shitmon through the game became a lot harder since Gen3 and only gets harder each new Gen. Gen1&2 were really forgiving to Shitmons in comparison to later gens.

Pinsir didn't learn a STAB move via level up until Gen IV, if it were a modern Pokémon they'd make it a fighting type like Grapploct and Crabrawler.

RSE had contests and HGSS added Pokethalon specially to address this problem, as well a bunch of small things Following Pokemon actually interacting with the enviroment and finding gifts for gifts, and taking photos with your Pokémon. But zoomers complained because JOHTO BAD REEE so all the side stuff was erased to make room for comp-shit and broken CHARIZARD forms. Now Pokemon only have value if they can OHKO the entire OU teir in one turn.

Good thing most pokemon in Gen 2 are not even fortune enough to have that. But I'm sure that is also somehow okay to you, since making compromises seems to be a big thing with johto defenders.

It learn only one stab in GSC and it is the last move it can learn. The HGSS movepool is good, you can't complain about it when you know how bad gen 2 Pokemon movesets were during gen 2/3.

You can say that about literally any special attacker in GSC, A Kadabra with all three elemental punches and whatever the best psychic move it can learn at the time solos the entire game.

Except most Gen 2 Pokémon do at least get strong non-stab moves in Gen 4. The only ones that don't are ones who get utility or status moves instead, or shit like Unown.

Most Johto Pokémon were good or at least usable in the Johto games. The issue is that Game Freak went full retard with powercreep. so Pokemon from Gen 4 onward were overpowered and optimized from the start, Gen 3 shitmons got saved by the mega timeline, and GEn 1 got saved due to First Child Privelge, leaving Gen 2 as the unloved middle children.

The alternative (or rather the only really option) should be rightfully calling out the game where it's noticeably flawed instead of defending it at every turn even at the expense of the your own experience of the game. It would be a much better game if it actually gave you the proper tools and ability to use the pokemon. Yes you can technically still use them. But it's not convenient.

Regardless, in GSC having shit movepools was an issue all Pokemon had in general not just Gen 2 mons. If you have a had time using Gen 2 mons, its only because GSC was stuck being sequels so Gen2 Pokemon were denied the spotlight that literally every other Generation of Pokemon got so they're harder to find and tend to show up later in the game, but that's a different discussion.

No that's just called having bare minimum decent movepools for your pokemon. Shouldn't really be a hard thing to do. The HGSS movepools are still not good. They are only good relatively compared to the godawful movepools in the originals. Just compare the movepools of DPP pokemon and HGSS pokemon
