Meaning you can now choose the cycle yourself?
Absolutely fucking awesome. I never liked to be forced to play at a specific time of the day, and modifying the console's date was annoying.

I doubt the day/night cycle will affect things that depend on the clock to reset daily like the lottery. It probably will mostly only matter for wild spawns and evolutions.

Kind of too bad but if they just rip the PLA system I can just manually set it to whatever time of day it currently it whenever I want.
Also I work night shifts so it won't be a headache trying to catch pokemon at certain times of day.

No, it just cycles at a much faster rate, like in Legends. A full day in Legends lasts about 24 minutes.

In Legends you can also change the phase yourself. You can rest in the Team Galactic's camps and sleep until X phase.

It's good, it means they probably won't have so many pointless daily events, like the stores in Stow-on-Side. Plus, waiting for the right weather to be in the right areas in SwSh was godawful, so anything that changes that is a positive in my book.
I just hope that, since there apparently aren't any random encounters at all anymore, they don't give too many Pokemon ridiculous spawn rates. Finding the fucking 2% random encounters at Lake of Outrage would have been almost impossible if the weather changed as much as it does in PLA.

The real time day/night cycle was always something that added a lot of immersion for me
I find it irritating when you're playing a RPG and it's switching between day and night all the time, you don't get enough time to enjoy either setting and it makes you feel rushed like everything's moving so fast
