and that's a good thing. Single battles are fundamentally flawed and only work because the core gameplay is piss-easy and designed for you as the player to win every fight effortlessly. If by "making it work" you mean ensuring a 30 turn game is a fast one then I think they failed spectacularly

They are already complaining that off-type terastal doesn't weaken your offensive options, meaning a fire type magnezone does 1.5x damage with steel, electric, and fire type attacks. They previously believed a fire type magnezone would lose STAB on electric and steel and therefore "stall tera" ex: steel type Avalugg would be common and viable.

Here is the thing, if the IRL leagues need to make all these different tiers/brackets plus have all these bans for various gimmicks/mechanics/ abilities/item/move combos.

Perhaps Pokemon is not built for e sports, and that is ok. The best part about pokemon is it's super comfy and easy.

That's actually really cool for mixing things up. You could use that to gain defensive coverage on a bulky mon to take out a sweeper that's about to sweep or to stop toxic stall in it's tracks.

It'll be really neat to see what happens to the competitive scene. This can't shake things up.

Having a few things banned makes sense. Having buckets and buckets of banned things usually shows that the tournament organizers are trying to force the game to be played in a way other than how it is designed.
