Y'all are being too harsh on gen 9. It's literally laying the groundwork for gen 10 and is the foundation of the new age of Pokemon.

Xy was just pokemon but in 3D. gen 6 wasn't that great. Gen 7 was the first real step away from the classic Pokemon. Even it's remake was different by being on a different console. Also no nat dex

Every gen since 6/7 have been "laying new groundwork". They removed gyms from 7 but added them back in 8. They introduce Megas/Z-Moves/Dynamax only to remove them. PLA is a good example of a more open-world Pokemon game. SV is going back to the "beat 8 gyms and elite 4/champion" formula. Tera-whatever will be removed in gen 10 for some other cheap bs.
