Gen 8 is objectively the worst. It has terrible balance in the world design and the progression of the game. Many Pokemon are completely unobtainable and several new ones were exclusive to the overpriced DLC, which only exists because the main game was highly lacking.

Barren corridor of a region. Horrible balance due to excess EXP. Wild area is poorly executed and ruins the progression. Main region is compromised so the rest could be sold back as overcharged DLC. Many new mons are unappealing. The story in incomprehensible. The characters are annoying. Raid Battles are slow. Dynamax is overpowered, and one third of all Pokemon are gone.

They sacrificed a lot to add in Dynamax and that damaged the game.

That is my view

Doesn't save the fact the initial game they put out is premium garbage. Give me one reason i shouldn't run around in IoA and CT and lurk in the horribly stale Wild Area?

Sadly it worked, because that means future bases are just going to be there as cardboard cut outs instead of something of effort like the forest side of Isle of Armor or something as fun (arguably) like Dynamax Adventure.

And honestly i don't blame you, the base is so goddamn shitty, i feared I'd wasted my money on the DLC.

Luckily i got the game for free and pay and played the DLC first with my Rillaboom, i was honestly happy i didn't experience the base game first.
I will say it's no masterpiece, but goddamn anything is better than the ugly Wild Area and the ugly twin post game.

The Wild Area is boring, it has items and NPCs generated by proximity and let you become ridiculously OP thanks to a constant influx of exp. candies, lol.
It's an okay concept but it was poorly executed and also unbalanced.

The dlc stories were both pretty shit, can barely even remember crown tundras, but the dynamax adventures made it super good. Nothing beat learning it and figuring out strats with my friends to beat zygardes raid battle, and then farm it for a shiny one.
Probs one of my favorite pokemon experiences

the dlc is fine but it doesn't elevate swsh from great to among the best. max adventures are admittedly kinda fun (any roguelite pokemon mode where you're just given random mons and swap them out as you go is fun in my eyes) and the dlc wild areas at least feel more varied than the base wild area
the most it does is elevate swsh from mediocre as fuck to marginally okay. especially with the price points
