What I like to do is hop on unregistered alts and use my meta team to wipe the floor with sub-1200 Elo shitters. My favorite ones are the underage temp6t fans with six shitmons who get ass-shatteringly upset, call me a "legendary spammer", and lose 6-0. There's also the guys with just one or two Pokémon, who end up being completely defenseless against Perish Song + Whirlpool Arceus. There's a surprisingly high amount of people who just copy Leon and Ash's teams, and they're stupidly easy to deal with too.
Once in a while I'll actually get beaten, though, and I find that optimizations I make for low ladder play often work out well for the 1500-1600 Elo ladder too. I replaced Life Orb on Mega Rayquaza with HBD so it can stay in for longer, replaced a Kyogre on my team with a scarfed Ditto to deal with problematic mons I need to outspeed and oneshot, put Magic Coat on my Arceus to deal with Spore and Sticky Web leads, I use Sash Calyrex-Shadow and the aforementioned Ditto in conjunction with each other to deal with other sashed Calyrexes... so on and so forth. I also use it to experiment with new teams and adjust accordingly.
