I finally accomplished my dream. I added Route 47, Cliff Cave, Route 48, Safari Zone Gate and the Safari Zone into Pokémon Crystal.

Complete with all the items, trainers, wild Pokémon, everything. All that's left to do is add back in the Safari Zone game functionality and expand the Safari Zone to be similar to HGSS.

If you talk to him before beating the Elite Four, he will just tell you to go away. That makes it balanced in my opinion.

Yeah, but he made a new tileset for the routes, which makes it feel disconnected from the rest of the region. In my map, I only used the existing outside tileset, and followed the rules and logic of the GSC map design, to make it feel as authentic as possible. I wanted it to feel like it was originally in the game, and HGSS took it and updated it to feel more cliff-y.

And here's Polished Crystal's Route 48.

Like I said, it's not bad at all, in fact, it's very good, it just wasn't what I was looking for, so I set out to make my own. Also, Polished Crystal doesn't have the Safari Zone Gate, just a forest at the end of Route 48, if I recall correctly.

Dang, I would but I don't know how to use GitHub. I really only made it for my own personalised Crystal hack, so there's a bunch of other random stuff like slight changes to the encounter table, Elite Four rematches, enemy AI fixes, Apricorn Ball fixes etc. The best I could do is upload the .blk and .asm files for the maps. Following this tutorial (https://github.com/pret/pokecrystal/wiki/Add-a-new-map-and-landmark), you should be able to add them to your own hack easily.

Just a question since you seem to have some knowledge, how do people announce/discuss/distribute hacks these days? Do I really have to go hunting for some Discord server just to know what's being worked on? Back in my day we'd discuss this stuff on public forums and distribute hacks as .ips patches and everything was good.

Oh, I don't keep up with ROM hacks either. I generally tend to dislike them because I'd rather play either how the developers intended, or how I want, which is why I began working on this hack. I've never seen hack ROMs themselves locked behind Discord server, but I know many of them like to lock their docs/support in their shitty Discords behind a shitton of verification bullshit. All of that is why I dislike the ROM hacking/fangame community outside of the research/decomp side.
