You don't see anybody criticizing Final Fantasy for being a turn-based RPG when there already was Dragon Quest and an ARPG when you already had things like Tales Of. Most people are fine with playing any type of RPG, FPS or any other genres without saying that they're all rip-off of some older game.
On the other hand, in the monster raising genre, everything is considered to be a rip-off of Pokemon and treated like the plague. I even saw comments saying the same for Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, despite them being first. You have a Youtuber called Mother's Basement, with more than 1 million of subscribers, who made a video where he seriously considered Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade and Shaman King as being Pokemon rip-off for having monsters. When people pointed out that, by that logic, Pokemon was a rip-off of Shin Megami Tensei and Dragon Quest V, he argued that it was not, because Pokemons fight instead of the character, while monsters in SMT and DQ fight alongside, which make a big difference, but Beyblade was still similar enough to be called a rip-off. On the same video, later, he added Ni No Kuni in the list of rip-off, despite Ni No Kuni having monsters fighting alongside the characters and not instead. So yeah, really stupid argument to protect Pokemon.
Digimon, Monster Rancher, Yokai Watch, Spectrobes, TemTem, Nexomon etc. all have their strengths and some weaknesses, but only the weaknesses of Pokemon are forgiven. For the others, they're just here to confirm to this community that they don't need to play any other game outside of Pokemon.
That's great if you played and enjoyed another monster-raising game. Keep being open-minded about this genre. You will not like everything but there are still some nice games out there.
