Emulators? Original carts? Official ROMs from eStores?

Virtual console for 1,2, cartridge for gens 3-5, digital copies gen 6-8.

used to emulate tons on psp as a kid, now i would use phone or 3ds. but i also own the games and gameboy colors so i could do that too if i really want to bring it out and replace the batteries... rip my old save....... nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Usually flashcarts on official handhelds. My DS flashcart stopped working a while back though. T_T

I just use my 3DS. Can run gen 1-3 via VC, can run gen 4-5 via Twilight Menu, and run 6-7 natively.

Carts. Have carts from every gen, so play on those mostly. Also got flash carts for playing rom hacks or randomizers.

All of them. I play on carts on original hardware when I want to be comfy and immerse myself, I play on emulators when I want to speed things up and just fuck around with a quick playthrough or cheats, and I take my 3DS with all the games on it whenever I go somewhere for a while. Also play fangames on PC, 3DS and phone.

I play Gen 1 and 2 on cartridges using the Stadium games. The speed-up option is a blessing, especially for Gen 2 level grinding (Which is only really needed for Stadium 2 itself at this point)

Original carts and VC. VC are a Godsend because I'm not forced to emulate anymore. I hope they release RSE on the eShop next year for their 20th anniversary.

I like to play gen 3 on real cartridges and I have a GBA flashcart for romhacks etc.
3DS virtual console for gen 2 because of the cartridge battery issue.
I don't really play gen 1 but I might get Blue on eshop before it closes.

I cant replay old games with a speed button, first time ofc I wanna enjoy it so no speedshit, but after the 3rd, 4th time I'm done with reading the same lines over and over, I just hold the spacebar.
Also usually start messing with the difficulty, throw the ROM in the universal rando and increase the levels by 20/25% to make it challenging.

Without* a speed button.
I still enjoy regular speed on new releases, but even then I sometimes turn off animations when the game becomes too much of a slog. Like Im not gonna miss anything for not seeing the animation of my Haunter's Shadow Ball for the millionth time.
