That is the point I was making when I brought up the Chinese pronunciation of the letter's sound. The hiragana that translates to "KYU" has nothing to do with the letter "Q" other than sounding the same as the letter's name sounds in English. Try actually making the sound that "Q" (paired with "U", yes, but that's English) makes in the word "Quest". This is not the same sound that the romanized Hira/Kata "KYU" makes.

Yes and no, it was actually switched for balls and potions. My guess is that they came up with great and ultra for the potions because they knew "good" and "amazing" weren't gonna work and they didn't wanna use super and hyper again. Then someone on the localization team though it fit better if the terminology was switched. I don't blame them, Great Potion and Ultra Potion would've been pretty weak.
